Nighttime temperatures are dropping quickly in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Ski resorts have been announcing opening day schedules and there is plenty of buzz about season passes.

Mount Rose is typically one of the first resort to open in the Tahoe Region. The 8260′ base elevation makes it substantially higher than most ski areas in the area. Mount Rose is scheduled to open on Friday, October 26.

The resort is wrapping up some improvements ahead of the opening day. Most notably, Mount Rose is beefing up snowmaking capabilities.

“Early season operations continue to be a top priority at Mt. Rose with a strong commitment to offering superior quality snow surfaces all season as the resort prepares for an Oct. 26 opening for the 2018-19 season; conditions permitting. Major snowmaking construction includes the installation of 17 new snowmaking towers complemented by increased firepower via additional high capacity pumps. The resort is also adding to its snow grooming fleet.” – The Tahoe Weekly

Other improvements include upgrades to signage on the hill. This includes switching to LED signs at the bottom of the lifts. In addition, the resort has completed some upgrades to restrooms and some tweaked parking lot infrastructure.

It is good to see Mount Rose making a push to upgrade snowmaking. This hill offers stellar terrain and a long season that often runs late into the spring. Mount Rose is the easiest resort to access from Reno and is a quick drive from Incline Village, NV.
