Meet Daniel Lüchinger, the man behind The Staubernbahn cableway in Switzerland, the world’s first battery powered cable car.  Daniel invested CHF5 million ($5.1 million) into the project and Swiss Public Television, went along for the inaugural run.

The cable car services The Berggasthaus Restaurant in Sennwald, Switzerland and Daniel is the innkeeper. Currently the cablecar is powered by 80% recycled oil and 20% solar but he hopes to reverse that ratio with the addition of photovoltaic cells at the base station.
