Just after noon Rock Face naturally triggered & slid big, running down to the magic carpet carrying a massive amount of debris & force. Alpental is closed today, our uphill travel policy is active & our pro patrol team will be active on the mountain tomorrow doing control work so it’s very important to steer clear of the entire permit area of the ski area. We also highly recommend avoiding any backcountry travel in the greater Alpental Valley. Thank you, and stay safe fellow skiers & boarders.”
That is the official statement from The Summit at Snoqualmie in Washington State after naturally triggered avalanche ripped out their magic carpet yesterday slightly after 12pm noon.
Avalanches anywhere on a are resort scary but the prospects of a slide hitting a magic carpet full of first time skiers is terrifying. Thankfully no injuries were reported and resort staff are working hard on mitigation.
