A skier rides behind his snowmobiling partner at Arctic Man

The famous Arctic Man snowmobile/skier race in Alaska’s Hoodoo Range is shrouded in tragedy today after a man attending the event died in an apparent crash on Saturday evening.

According to US News & World Report, 31 year-old Clayton Kaigelak went for an evening ride by himself when he crashed into a piece of frozen avalanche debris and ended up getting thrown over the handle bars. Somehow the snowmobile ended up atop the victim and he died beneath the machine. The death occurred outside of any of the Arctic Man staging areas or venues.
