Landslide Traps 2,000 People At French Ski Resort (Bad News Resort Isn’t Spinning Lifts For Guests)

Around 2,000 people were trapped Tuesday at Monts d’Olmes ski resort in the French Pyrenees after a landslide of mud, branches and rock debris blocked to the resort’s only access road. Thelocal.fr reports a persistent mix of rain and snow over the last few days triggered the slide.

While some of us think of being trapped at a ski resort as dream scenario, the skiers stuck at the popular ski spot, called the Ramier, will not be able to hit the slopes because authorities decided to close for the day because emergency services could not gain access if there were an accident.

Rescue teams have been working since Tuesday night to clear the road and expect to regain access to Monts d’Olmes by Wednesday evening. There is an orange alert for avalanche in the area district of Ariège with authorities still asking skiers to take precautions with off-piste skiing.
