Might be a measly one horsepower and only carry one person uphill at a time but this DIY rope tow got me thinking about scouring Craigslist for parts and trying to set up something similar.  Share this with a buddy that’s kinda handy and down for projects:

200′ Rope Tow ski lift and how it works:

-Electric motor, gear box and pully from a 110V boat lift (free)

-400′- 5/8″ 3 strand polypropylene rope. ($110)

-Electrical switches/ plugs ($130)

-Miscellaneous steel (free)

-Miscellaneous hardware ($50)

-Pulley and come along for tension (free)
