A search and rescue effort is currently underway in the Mt Baker Wilderness, where two snowboarders in their 20’s are missing reports The Bellingham Herald.

The pair, who were last seen on Sunday, had planned on backcountry snowboarding in the Mt Baker Wilderness but when they failed to return by sundown, their roommate promptly altered authorities. S+R personnel and deputies with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office are working together on the rescue effort.

Since launching the rescue, authorities have located the missing persons’ vehicle and are searching the nearby backcountry. However, recent snow and variable weather has made their job that much more difficult. Those conditions are expected to persist throughout rescue efforts today and blizzard-like conditions should last through Thursday.
