
The climber who perished as a result of a rockfall on Yosemite’s El Capitan, died while saving his wife’s life reports The Times.

32 year-old Andrew Foster of Wales was scoping out the iconic granite wall with his wife, Lucy Foster when a slab of rock ‘the size of an apartment building‘ suddenly broke free before bearing down on the couple. According to the Times, Lucy told a close relative that her husband “dived on top of me as soon as he could see what was going to happen. He saved my life.”

Besides being described as a loving husband and avid outdoorsman, Andrew Foster worked for Patagonia and was formerly an employee at the Cardiff-based climbing shop, Up and Under.
