This past Saturday a multi-bike pileup occurred just moments into the women’s final of the Red Hook Criterium race in Brooklyn. The race featured 60 bikers flying around a 1,130-meter long track on fixed-gear bikes without brakes.

Heavy crashes are not uncommon for the Red Hook Criterium race. (WATCH: Massive Pileup After Motorcycle Stalls In The Middle of Brooklyn Bike Race)

Despite the violent start, the rest of the event went off without a hitch, with American cyclist Colleen Gulick winning the event in just under 32 minutes and 22 seconds.
