Winter is back in full force after a brief dry spell in mid February. A storm will sweep through Colorado today, favoring the southern and central mountains.

Wolf Creek should see the most accumulation, with NOAA’s models predicting up to 20 inches by late Tuesday night. Tuesday will be an intense storm day with heavy snowfall and wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour. Look for Wednesday to be a bluebird powder day as skies clear and winds drop in the mountains of southern  and central Colorado.

“Expect snow to fall in the mountains today, increasing overnight and continuing Tuesday. Highest snowfall amounts are expected in the central and southern Colorado mountains, where 12 to 18 inches of snow may fall.”- NWS Grand Junction

TUESDAY NIGHT...

* LOCATION...the western Mosquito and eastern Sawatch Mountains
  above 11000 feet...western Chaffee County between 9000 and 11000
  feet...the La Garita and eastern San Juan Mountains above 10000
  feet...including Fremont...Monarch...North Cochetopa...Wolf
  Creek and Cumbres Passes.

* CAUSE AND TIMING...a Pacific storm system will track across the
  region through Tuesday evening.

* SNOW ACCUMULATION...10 to 20 inches.

* WIND...southwest 15 to 30 gusting to 50 mph causing areas of
  blowing snow and poor visibility.

* IMPACT...travel will be hazardous due to heavy, blowing snow,
  poor visibility and icy or snow covered roads.
