While South America is known for its extreme winds, New Zealand is known for it low elevations. Those same coastal elevations coupled with cold temps can result in terrifying amounts of ice. In the above video, lift ops @Whakapapa go out on a routine de-icing run.
“Ever wondered why the lifts at Whakapapa aren’t always open at 9am? This video will help explain why…..So spare a thought for the crew of guys who have to go out sometimes day after day and beat ice all day long. All footage credit goes to Whakapapa de-icers” – Ben van Gool
