It’s been dumping again in South America and midwinter conditions are in full effect across much of Chile, Argentina, and Australia. With temps remaining low and winds staying relatively calm, bluebird pow days have been abundant over the past few days.
Still, New Zealand is suffering from rain up high and low snow, both of which combined to create some scary avalanche conditions. A significant avalanche event behind The Remarkables occurred yesterday. The person who triggered the slide avoided being caught in the avalanche. Multiple guides were present at the time.

Recent events in the Remarkables Range have highlighted the risks of winter backcountry use. The Mountain Safety Council is keen to remind those going into unpatrolled terrain to check the conditions carefully. Chief Executive Mike Daisley is concerned the well-documented conditions will persist through the season. – NZ Mountain Safety
