Startling wildlife sighting off of popular California surf destination. Surfers, Drew Palumbo and Ben Slayback, witnessed this great white breach off of Sunset Beach while on the water Monday.

The great white appears to be a juvenile measuring about 6.5 feet according to the Orange County Register. Director of the Shark Lab at California State University, Long Beach, Chris Lowe, thinks the surfers were in no real danger of attack. He had this to say about juvenile great whites:

“They are kind of scared of big things,” he said. “They don’t know they are a shark until they are about 10 feet — that’s kind of the joke among biologist.”
