According to the Jackson Hole News & Guide, an avalanche struck today just outside of Jackson, WY killing 30-year-old Jackson resident Jed Wesley Foster. The side occurred on an east-facing slope off Pyramid Peak in the Tetons south of resort.

A witness to the avalanche notified authorities a little before 1 p.m. A helicopter flying over the area saw tracks leading into a slide path and alerted Teton County Search & Rescue.

Sgt. Matt Carr told the Jackson Hole News & Guide that the slide carried Foster “some distance” over “rocky terrain”.

Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center have rated avalanche conditions in the area at Considerable.

Our deepest condolences to Jed Wesley Foster’s friends and family.
