According to Transworld Business, SBC Media, which includes Canadian based publications such as SBC Skier, Snowboard Canada, and SBC Business, just to to name a few, has shut down operations and is currently seeking investment to restart the media group.
Ultimately, investors pulled the plug on injecting additional capital into the group this year and subsequently, the media group has filed for Bankruptcy. As of now, group editorial director Scott Birke is hoping that new investors can jumpstart the group and keep such titles as SBC Skier and Snowboard Canada in circulation. During an interview with Transworld Business, Birke had these things to say about the media group’s future.
“I don’t believe this is a signal that our endemic action sports media is on the way out. I see people posting this as a sign of the times, that print media is dead. Print was down a bit from last year, but it was still extremely sustainable. We were creating new and creative ways for our partners to invest in our content, complementing it with print and online.”
“I don’t see SBC Media continuing as a company but possibly another media company forming from the dust.”
Whatever happens, we hope the heart and soul of SBC stays intact as Canada’s premier action sports media group does their best to stay in the game of telling stories behind true mountain lifestyles and personalities.
