Following a massive early season dump, Perisher Resort will be opening this weekend. Below average temperatures and a foot of new snow is allowing the largest ski resort in Australia to open several days earlier than projected. Right out of the gate Perisher will have their PlayStation Terrain Park open as well as having night skiing and fireworks to kick-off the first weekend of winter.

Official Statement:

After 30cm of fresh snow and perfect snowmaking conditions, we’ve decided to open our 2015 Snow Season early on Friday 5 June. The Village 8 Express Chairlift and a beginner Skier Conveyor on Front Valley will offer the first runs of the season from Friday morning.

On Saturday morning the Perisher Quad Express will open to Mid Station for skiers and boarders, and will continue to the top of Perisher Valley for foot passengers looking to check out the beautiful sights. Further lifts may open following forecast excellent snowmaking conditions in the coming days. We’ve also got free night skiing and fireworks on Saturday evening from 5.45pm to 8pm with any valid ticket or four day Peak Festival Pass, so come and experience Perisher under lights this weekend!

CEO Peter Brulisauer says, “We are very excited to be able to provide our guests with some great skiing and boarding options for the opening weekend. Early season snowfalls and our extensive snowmaking system have allowed us to prepare Perisher for a fantastic start to the season”.

Perisher Snowsports School Director Tina Burford says, “We have great variety of flexible lesson choices and a dedicated team of professional instructors ready to go for winter 2015. With all this snow and amazing snowmaking we are super excited about the season that is about to kick off “.

For all of you who are keen to get jumping and sliding, the PlayStation Slopestyle Terrain Park will be up and running for Friday’s opening with a great range of features accessed from the Village 8 Express.

It doesn’t stop there… Australia’s coolest music Festival, the Peak Festival will provide the weekend’s entertainment in eight venues around the resort featuring 35 artists and over 120 performances. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the new winter.

We’ll see you here soon…
