On August 8th, 2014, two climbers were killed when an avalanche struck their climbing party. The group was ascending the north face of the 15,042-foot Kamen volcano in Kamchatka, Russia at the time of the accident.

โ€œAccording to the surviving tourists from the group of 10 people, on Friday morning they decided to climb the Kamen volcano from the more dangerous side: the northern slope. Three people โ€” two men and one woman โ€” went first. They were hit by the avalanche.โ€

โ€œThe bodies of two men โ€ฆ were found by rescuers at a height of 2,700 meters (8,858 ft).โ€ – a spokesperson for the regional branch of the Emergency Situations Ministry.
