On August 8th, 2014, two climbers were killed when an avalanche struck their climbing party. The group was ascending the north face of the 15,042-foot Kamen volcano in Kamchatka, Russia at the time of the accident.

“According to the surviving tourists from the group of 10 people, on Friday morning they decided to climb the Kamen volcano from the more dangerous side: the northern slope. Three people — two men and one woman — went first. They were hit by the avalanche.”

“The bodies of two men … were found by rescuers at a height of 2,700 meters (8,858 ft).” – a spokesperson for the regional branch of the Emergency Situations Ministry.
