AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RENO NV
237 AM PDT MON OCT 28 2013

SYNOPSIS...

STRONG LOW PRESSURE WILL MOVE ACROSS WESTERN NEVADA WITH AREAS OF
RAIN AND SNOW CONTINUING TODAY. ROADWAYS COULD BE ICY FOR THE
MORNING COMMUTE ESPECIALLY ABOVE 6000 FEET. SOME SHOWERS WILL
REMAIN INTO TUESDAY AS THE LOW PULLS AWAY. HIGH PRESSURE REBUILDS
WEDNESDAY FOR DRY AND WARMER WEATHER FOR THE LATTER HALF OF THE
WEEK.

SHORT TERM...

SNOW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE THIS MORNING AND ROAD CONDITIONS COULD
BE HAZARDOUS ESPECIALLY ABOVE 6000 FEET. CHAIN CONTROLS ARE IN
EFFECT FOR AREA PASSES. WEB CAMERAS SHOW SLUSHY ACCUMULATIONS
OVERNIGHT, BUT AS TEMPERATURES DROP PRIOR TO SUNRISE, ROADWAYS
COULD FREEZE. ADDITIONAL CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN FOR THE MORNING
COMMUTE.

LOW PRESSURE EXITS BY TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING
BRINGING CLEARER SKIES AND LIGHTER WINDS. FLOW REMAINS NORTHERLY
KEEPING COOLER CONDITIONS FOR WEDNESDAY, BUT WARMER THAN MONDAY
AND TUESDAY. OVERALL, TEMPERATURES INCREASE FOR WESTERN NEVADA
VALLEYS FROM THE UPPER 40S AND LOW 50S INTO THE MID/UPPER 50S BY
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. SIMILARLY, THE SIERRA VALLEYS ALSO INCREASE;
FROM THE 20S TO MID/UPPER 30S. LOWS WILL REBOUND AS WELL, BUT NOT
QUITE TO THE EXTENT OF THE HIGHS. ANTICIPATE THE COOLEST NIGHT TO
BE TUESDAY NIGHT WITH LOWS IN THE UPPER 20S/LOW 30S FOR WESTERN
NEVADA AND FRIGID LOWS IN THE TEENS FOR SIERRA VALLEYS. BOYD
