Las Leñas is absolutely buried in snow right now. The resort will open this Wednesday June 20, and it looks like conditions will be great. Initially, they were intending to open on Friday June 22, but it appears that the snow that fell today and last night has convinced them to change their minds.
There are no reported totals yet, but there appears to be at least 5o cm of new snow at the base. This new snow, the snow from a couple days ago plus wind should equal a couple meters of fresh at the top of Marte.
The forecast is calling for snow to continue through Sunday, so hopefully there is still more to come. Next week will bring high pressure, so there should be a sunny opening day on Wednesday. As long as winds keep to a minimum, things are looking good.
