It's no secret that the snow hasn't stopped falling all season in the Pacific NW. Mt. Baker picked up another 4 feet since last week's post and they now have over 750 inches for the season. Only about 100 inches to got to until Baker reaches the big season total from last year of 857 inches. We could see half of that fall over the next week. It’s no secret that the snow hasn’t stopped falling all season in the Pacific NW. Mt. Baker picked up another 4 feet since last week’s post and they now have over 750 inches for the season. Only about 100 inches to got to until Baker reaches the big season total from last year of 857 inches.  We could see half of that fall over the next week.

Further South down the Cascades 7 inches have fallen at Mt. Hood over the past 4 days and 13 inches down at Bachelor.  Bachelor has picked up 435 inches so far this season which is not as big as Baker but still good for this point in the season.

The next storm has already moved in and snow is falling across the mountains.  The snow levels are coming up and will go as high as 4000 ft. in Washington on Friday and 5000 ft. or a little higher in Oregon. Then the next storm on Saturday will push a cold front through and which will drop snow levels.  The snow will continue right through Sunday.

Here is the precip forecast through Sunday in liquid inches.

I can’t put up the snowfall forecast map because when the snow levels come up it struggles to pinpoint the mountain terrain above the snow levels.  That causes it to show less snow than what will fall.  Liquid equivelant works better. Above 4000 ft. in Washington 2-3 feet of snow are possible and above 5500 ft. in Oregon 4-5 feet are possible by Sunday night.

Some moisture will continue to stream into Washington on Monday before the next weaker system pushes into the Pacific NW on Tuesday.  Then a colder system pushes in Wednesday into Thursday.  The amounts with the systems next week look to be lighter piling up to a foot or more.  By this time next week we could be adding on another 3-4 feet onto the totals at Mt. Baker and 5-6 feet at down at Mt. Hood.

Starting the weekend of the 7th it looks like there could be a break for up to a week as the ridge builds back in.  Any break though should be short lived and we should see some more snow in the month of April.  It will be interesting to see how close Mt. Baker gets to last year’s totals.  BA
