Just Announced:
As of Sunday April 1st, lift serve skiing will be over at Stowe Mountain Resort!
Can’t say this is surprising news given the fact that March 2012 is on course to be the warmest on record and the thermometer has been pushing 80 for the past couple of days.
Official word from SMR:
Based on current mountain conditions and extended weather forecast, Stowe’s revised operation schedule is as follows:
The Last Scheduled Day of Skiing for the Season is Sunday, April 1 (weather permitting).
Any Extension of the Season (Beyond 4/1) will be Made No Later Than Thursday 3/29.

The Forerunner Quad will be the last lift left turning come Monday morning.
Snow from HEAVEN trails are done…
The snow from Hoses trails still have some life left in them.
Will the mountain hold up for another week? Probably, but its likely some grass / mud skiing may be involved to get over some of the water bars and areas down low that are all dried up. North Slope to the bottom will likely be the last top to bottom trail standing, especially if snow from the park is moved around to fill in the low spots.
All things considered, this winter will likely go down in the bottom tier on the fun meter. A month ago, we were oh so close…But high pressure came our way and quickly torched what was here. Oh well, what are you going to do? Skiing is skiing and you take what you can get!
