Sneaky Pow Day!
The forecast has all of Whistler anticipating a deep week, but the snow snuck up on everybody a bit this morning. A little help from Whistler’s low morning snow report that said only a few centimeters had fallen kept the mountain virtually empty. In reality though, over 14 centimeters had settled on top by the time the day got going and this made for a closet powder day. You could tell people started calling their friends to pass on how much snow there actually was, as the traffic picked up a bit late in the day, but not enough shredders made it out in the end to make much of a difference.
Extremely low visibility and a spotty selection of running lifts on Whistler directed many over to Blackcomb. The lower mountain was wet and slushy, the mid-mountain was engulfed in a fog, but up higher (Spankey’s and CBC) was cold and deep, albeit grey.Â
Place to be today:
Lots of snow had blown into Spankey’s making it my pick for the run of the day, but light interior-like powder stashes existed all over. Everyone had their spot and seemed content with it.
Forecast:
Snow is in the forecast every day through Wednesday! I’m no mathematician but I calculate that 143 cm could fall by Thursday morning. If you were thinking of quitting your job, do it this week and ski. The freezing level should also steadily drop throughout the weekend.
