NOAA: A strong cold front will pass through the Sierra and western Nevada Tuesday morning. Winds will increase ahead of the system in the Sierra and western Nevada and persist into Tuesday. Winds ahead of the cold front will gust to 45 to 55 mph in the lower valleys, with 60 to 70 mph gusts in wind prone areas. Gusts near 100 mph over the Sierra Ridges. As the cold front passes through the region Tuesday morning, snow levels will drop to all valley floors around the time of the morning commute. Snow will impact the northern and central Sierra, where several inches of snow are possible through mid morning Tuesday. Snow is likely for western Nevada valley floors Tuesday along the cold front with up to 2 inches of accumulation possible. A winter weather advisory is in effect for the Reno, Carson City and Minden as accumulations will result in icy snow-covered roads. Commuters are urged to drive slowly and allow extra time to reach their destinations.
