Today was a pow day! Maybe the best of the season in Tahoe so far. Anywhere from 6 inches to a foot of new snow was laid down last night. Just about all of the terrain on the mountain was open today. Pow slashes were made everywhere under KT-22 from the Enchanted Forrest to Red Dog Ridge. There were plenty of spots on the lower mountain where you might still connect with firm basement under the new snow, but there were also plenty of spots where turns felt bottomless.
The upper mountain offered entire bowls of true pow skiing. Headwall had the best conditions on the entire mountain today, which is odd because the Headwall lift remained closed. The Slot and the broader CII Bowl was sweet but you still have to be careful in spots. If you don’t watch out you’ll still ski over hidden rocks in these low tide conditions but if you payed attention to the terrain and favored snow deposition areas today, there was plenty of steep and deep to be had!
Granite Chief was tons of fun! It got skied out pretty fast and became a bit of a rollercoaster/terrain park down low but early runs where awesome and there are always stashes to be found all over the Granite Chief playground.
A couple of choice spots like Granite Chief Peak and Palisades stayed closed today and the runout under Mainline Pocket slid. A few other steep regions on the mountain slid as well, but most of the slides were not wide or long, leaving plenty of good snow in place.
Pow was great today and people took advantage. Cliffs were dropped an straight lines run, but the fact that we only got about a foot of snow over the low tide conditions still leaves many of the best lines undesirable. But hey, McConkey’s was skied today… That is a first for the season to say the least.
