Yes, this is another Red Bull ______ extreme, never-before-done idea that probably costs more than you can possibly imagine; but keep reading this time because the Red Bull Signature Series is a new television show that aims to put action sports on the map for good. Today (jan. 21) at 2:00 pm ET Red Bull Signature Series will premier on NBC with television coverage of Crashed Ice. Signature Series is the culmination of a partnership between NBC Sports, Alli Sports, and Red Bull Media House to bring 35 hours of completely unique extreme competitions to a mainstream audience all year long.

Red Bull Signature Series premire

The Unofficial Networks audience is, for the most part, savvy to such Red Bull competitions as X-Fighters, Supernatural, Crashed Ice, Dream Line, Rampage, and Cold Rush. But, we must remember that the X Games aren’t two decades old yet and the typical sports fan has no idea what is happening in the action sports bubble. Red Bull Signature Series wants to open people’s eyes to these ‘unknown’ athletes and is channeling the success and momentum of Art of FLIGHT into the Signature Series events. Even Curt Morgan has been recruited to add his surreal and aesthetically pleasing touch to the mix.

Red Bull SIgnature Series

This series premires with Crashed Ice, the event that was seen as best able to transcend the boundaries between traditional popular sports and the world of action sports that Red Bull dominates. Crashed Ice is by no means a mainstream sport or even a popularly recognized event, but it is a fusion of hockey and ski racing that Alli Sports President Wade Martin believes can captivate the general public.

“I think that this is will be a strong start to the Signature Series and the viewership we anticipate building.” -Wade Martin

Red Bull Signature Series

From there, Signature Series will progress to airing more far-fetched events such as Supernatural, in which the world’s foremost snowboarders throw down in an engineered backcountry course with striking similarities to ewok tree forts. Supernatural is an event that the layperson may have a more difficult time relating to, but the unmistakable badassery that is sure to ensue will keep them coming back for more. That is at least Red Bull and NBC’s approach.

Eventually  “big wave surfing (Jaws, Pipe, Mavricks, etc), next generation Mega Ramp with BMX and skate, and proximity flying” will be added to Signature Series according to Red Bull Sports Marketing Manager Sean Eggert.

So tune into NBC today and keep up throughout the year as Sal Masekela hostes the next installment of action sports progression in popular media. It should be a fun ride. More information can be seen at Red Bull Signature Series’ website.
