Ain't no thang...

I just read this article about a pub in England that serves ‘beer’ to dogs.  The Brandling Villa, which is located in South Gosforth, Newcastle, offers an alternative beverage for their regulars’ dogs.  The un-carbonated beer doesn’t have any alcohol in it but is made with the same ingredients as human beer such as malted barley and is spiked with a meat extract.

The Brandling Villa supposedly ran out of it’s 48 bottles in just two weeks so they had to order more.

“People seem to think it’s a bit mental – we keep it in the fridge along with other beers and they ask what it is” says manager Dave Carr. “People think it’s just a normal beer with a ridiculous name…I scoped the internet looking for ridiculous stuff, and we became dog-friendly. There aren’t many pubs you can go to with your dog.”

A pretty spiffy looking place too.

The pub’s menu also caters to dogs with such items like ‘Chicken a la Franc’ – a dog version of chicken chasseur and a Sunday roast with ‘cat’ gravy – a beef stock with fish sauce.

The new menu in the pub comes after the first beer made especially for dogs was created in the U.S.

Bowser Beer is made in Phoenix, Arizona from beef or chicken broth with malt barley. It is non-alcoholic, has no carbonation and is also free of hops which can be toxic for dogs.

A six-pack costs $20 and the company suggests giving the brew to your pet straight from the bottle, over dried dog food or using a splash to flavor their water bowl.

This is kind of funny.  Imagine sauntering into a pub, hammered, at 11:30 at night and seeing a Blood Hound, a Shit Tzu, and a Great Dane just chillin, drinking dog beer…?  I think we can all agree that all the women will be checking out that table.  Dogs just crushing it everywhere in the place then they stick the bill on their owner.  So smooth. I need to go to England and drink at the Brandling Villa.

Cheers!
