Well, its dumping in Hakuba! Things are starting to feel decidedly Japan-like here, with a good foot and a half falling since early this morning. The snow was lighter than the previous storm, but still felt on the wetter side at lower elevations. Thats a good thing right now, as we still need some heavier base building snow.

The best skiing today was still in tree areas with less summer brush, but more areas are beginning to fill in. Northerly slopes were the way to go, as more southern ones had a sun crust 12 – 18 inches deep. Mellower pillow lines are in good condition, and medium sized ones should be filled in with this storm or the next.

The forecast is calling for more snow this evening and tomorrow, and its snowing hard right now, so things are starting look really good here in Hakuba. The forecast seems to be calling for some snow falling until Saturday, with a short period of high pressure Saturday or Sunday, followed by more snow next week.
