Silverton Mountain opens for the season tomorrow with unguided skiing/riding and forecasted fresh snow! Unguided tickets are $49, you don’t need a reservation, and the lifts start turning at 9am. Should be some great terrain open with the approaching storm, but Silverton is still advising to bring your powder-rock skis. The stoke will definitely be high and Silverton’s openings are always quite the party!
Dates for unguided early-season skiing are Dec (3-4) (10-11) (15,16,17,18) (22,23,24,25,26*MONDAY) (29,30,31,Jan 1, 2*MONDAY) (5,6,7,8) (12,13,14,15).
If you want to give up skiing for the day and help the ski patrol bootpack, you can earn free days of unguided skiing.
The following details about the deal is taken from SilvertonMountain.com…
“Join the Silverton 81433 Bootpackers Union for the annual stompathon. For each full day you stomp down the snow with the ski patrol you will earn a free unguided ski day good for the 2011-2012 season. Be sure to show up on Dec 3,4,10 or 11 with your pants duct taped to your boots (no joke) to earn a free day of skiing. Avalanche gear and backpack is required (we do have rentals available) skiers and boarders are welcome. Bootpacking is a great way to get in shape and learn the mountain on a more intimate level. Show up by 8am ready to pack it hard and deep on any of the packing dates and you will be initiated into the 81433 Bootpackers Union.”
There will be a crew of Unofficial Telluride guys at Silverton tomorrow so say whats up if you see us…
