The phrase “fashion meets function” might be the most overused, clichéd term in out action sports outerwear. Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a better way to describe The North Face’s “Back to Berkeley” boot. It’s a throwback to the classic hiking boot design, with some 21st century upgrades that blend in seamlessly to the traditional look. As for technology, the boot has HydroSeal for waterproofing, Primaloft for warmth, and Winter Grip so you don’t make an ass of yourself when it gets slick this winter. The combination of waterproofing/warmth/traction make the boot a great choice for winter adventures- be it urban or in the mountains.

Beyond the technical aspects, Back to Berkeley boot is user friendly. There isn’t a break-in period, like with most hiking boots. Additionally, it’s comfortable enough to wear even if your outing doesn’t require the use of all the technical specs. Above all, it’s the technical and style blend that really makes the boot. Get the performance of a hiking boot, without the over-engineered look.
