Both K2 and the Rolling Stones are celebrating their 50th anniversaries this year.  So, K2 thought it would be a good marketing move to team up with the Stones and toss their Lips & Tongue symbol on four of their skis this coming season.  It’s a pretty cool idea and somewhat unique.

The K2 Rolling Stones Limited Edition Ski Collection will be coming out in November 15, 2011.

The questions is:  Is this cool?  Or, is it kinda old and lame?

Do you really wanna think of this face every time you click in?

I’m personally still undecided.  I love the Stones, but I’m not a huge fan of the Lips & Tongue, and I don’t know if I’d want it staring at me every time I clicked into my skis.

They would be good for the wall, tho.

Another question is:  Will it help sell K2 skis?  The Stones are pretty antiquated for the younger generation, but I suppose there are still plenty of old people who saw the Stones live (eh hem, me) that are still buying skis.  I don’t really picture the new generation on ‘em, and I’m pretty damned curious as to who we will see on ‘em…

…which spontaneously leads me to another great question:  Will we see more of these at Squaw or Alpine?  hmmmm….

“Turning 50 alongside the Rolling Stones and collaborating with the band on a project to celebrate the same anniversary is a fitting way to start a very loud and fun party for K2 that will span 2012,” said Jeff Mechura, vice president of global marketing for K2.
