Jealous? Yeah, we are too. According to reports from Silverton, a couple of patrollers got a lift up the mountain on Sunday, and skied the first fresh snow of the 2011-2012 ski season.

Apparently it’s been snowing in the Silverton area off and on for the past several days, and the top of the mountain was fully worthy for a couple of fresh turns. Like most ski resorts out west, Silverton got hammered last winter, and the first tracks of 2011-2012 have already benn laid.

Does this get you fired up or what!?!

As is the case with most early season skiing, Silverton isn’t actually scheduled to spin their chair until December 3rd. Of course the disclaimer is also in place that if it does keep snowing, they may open earlier.  Silverton Mountain is actually the highest ski area in North America, and is also regarded as one of the more unique ski destinations in the lower 48. Not only is the area around Silverton “reclaimed” in the sense that it turned from a once heavily polluted old mining area with little to no use, into a viable ski area, but  it has one chair, can be skied with or without a guide, and offers heli-skiing. Sounds pretty sick to us too!

The only question for the rest of us NOT in Silverton is when are WE gonna have enough snow to ski on?

Any guesses?

Will Tahoe, Jackson, Snowbird, or Stowe get turns first?

The signs are here people!!!! Snow has already been skied for 2011-2012!!!! Winter is right around the corner!!!!!!!!!!!!!
