271 snow guns have got Perisher ski resort in Australia open for business today. 24cms of new snow in the past 3 days didn’t hurt, but didn’t really help either.
Perisher will have 2 lifts in Front Valley open today, and 6 lifts open saturday & sunday, including the Village 8 and Perisher Express Quad to Mid-Station. The Aussies will also be rockin’ out to the 2011 Perisher Snowy Mountains of Music Festival this weekend.
Perisher is the largest ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere. Perisher has a bottom elevation of 5,380 feet, a top elevation of 6,739 feet, 49 lifts (one of them being an 8-seater), 18% advanced terrain, and even has a an underground railway called the Skitube.
I had no idea that 8-pack ski lifts existed…but they do in Oz.
