While the skies break blue around parts of the Lake Tahoe region today, a winter storm is set to return this evening, bringing snow and high winds to the northern Sierra– especially Lassen Peak.

Tahoe should also see some moderate accumulation out of this second, colder system with Carson Pass, Sugar Bowl, Mt Rose, and Donner Pass waking up to a second round of snow on Tuesday morning.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SACRAMENTO HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 8 AM PDT TUESDAY.

* MAIN IMPACT…SLICK ROADS AND REDUCED VISIBILITY DUE TO SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS. TRAVEL DELAYS AND CHAIN CONTROLS.

* TIMING…LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO TUESDAY MORNING.

* LOCATIONS…INTERSTATE 80 OVER DONNER PASS, HIGHWAY 50 OVER ECHO SUMMIT AND LASSEN VOLCANIC NATIONAL PARK.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS…2 TO 4 INCHES ABOVE 6000 FEET WITH 6 TO 8 INCHES POSSIBLE OVER THE HIGHER PEAKS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL CAUSE PRIMARILY TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES, AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
