A man in his early 20’s is presumed dead after venturing off the beaten path and into the Norris Geyser Basin area of Yellowstone National Park said park officials late Tuesday. According to the Jackson Hole News and Guide, the man walked approximately 225 yards off the boardwalk before he fell into a hot spring in the basin. The body has not been located.

Park officials commented on the recovery process saying, “rangers are using extreme caution as they respond given the hazards of the thermal area.”

Just last week, a boy experienced burns to one of his limbs at the Morning Glory Pool within the national park and was later airlifted to the St John’s Hospital in Jackson, WY.
