Steamboat’s historic Howelsen Hill is slip sliding away.

According to the Steamboat Today, town officials are focused on a landslide on the upper reaches of the ski hill that has been growing over the the past week. So far, the large crack in the slope has derailed the alpine slide in one spot and is currently stretching towards a chair lift opposite the slide.

In an interview with Steamboat Today, Howelsen Hill supervisor Brad Setter admitted, “I don’t think the rain has helped us,” to which he added, “We’re in wait-and-see mode.”

So far, one consultant has described the landslide as shallow and but is unsure as to how severe the slide may ultimately become. So far, town officials are recommending that hikers stay away from the affected area while staff monitors the slide daily.
