Killington, Vermont — Ski season isn’t far away, especially for Killington Resort. While Killington is currently dealing with a warm front, they are trying to get open soon. In the meantime, work continues on the various projects at both ski resorts.
Yesterday, Killington Resort and Pico Mountain shared an update on the construction projects that are happening at both mountains.
Over at Killington, the Snowdon Quad project is nearing completion. This offseason, the Snowdon Tripl has been replaced with a new fixed-grip quad chairlift. The move is intended to increase reliability and skier circulation in the K-1 base area. The chairs are on the line, and lift shacks are seeing their finishing touches. Also ongoing is the installation of the new Learn to Carpet lift at Snowshed, with covers scheduled for installation this week.
At Pico, the big project is installing a new rope tow for the Outpost terrain pod. With its chairlift decommissioned, the rope tow will allow skiers to reach Outpost’s terrain. The rope for the new TowPro lift is getting spliced, meaning the lift is nearly ready. Pico’s also seeing another new magic carpet in their beginner area, which saw a new one last season as well.
Killington & Pico had various other projects for this offseason. This includes snowmaking upgrades (most notably to the Conclusion trail), new trail signage, lift refurbishments, and upgrades to their summer attractions.
Big projects are already eyed for next offseason, including continuing the K-1 Gondola modernization project, the new Outpost quad chairlift at Pico, a new power line from K-1 to the top of North Ridge, and starting work on the Needle’s Eye Lodge (opening 2028-29). Ultimately, $200 million in upgrades is earmarked for the next 10-15 years.
Killington Resort plans to open as soon as possible, but it likely won’t be for at least several more days due to the expected warm front this week in New England. Pico Mountain’s projected opening date is December 11th.
