Vermont — While it’s definitely under the radar, Middlebury Snowbowl has a lot going for it.

Located in Northern Vermont, it sees a solid amount of snowfall each winter. With varied terrain, it also offers something for everyone. Add in recent additions like a new quad chairlift and night skiing, and it’s becoming a more well-known ski area.

This week, the GM of the Middlebury Snowbowl (Kim Essensa) discussed what they’ve been working on this offseason. The big project is the renovation and moving of the Hubbard Cabin. Built back in 1938, it will now serve as the home for Middlebury’s ski team.

Other referenced projects include creating more lodge space by moving the Sticket Wicket Bar, fixing a problematic snowmaking area, acquiring a new snowcat, and doing preparatory work for a future rope tow.

Middlebury Snowbowl aims to open for the season on December 9th.

About Middlebury Snowbowl

Owned by Middlebury College, the Middlebury Snowbowl is one of Vermont’s hidden skiing gems. It’s also one of the most historic, with the first trails cut back in 1934. The ski area features 28 trails and 11 gladed areas across more than 600 skiable acres, plus various sidecountry options. Four lifts span the mountain. Snowmaking is surprisingly limited, only servicing six trails. Recent additions include the new Sheehan quad chairlift, night skiing, and snowmaking enhancements. It’s also an Indy Pass partner.

Located near the ski area is the Rikert Outdoor Center. Also owned by the college, it offers trails for cross-country skiers, fat bikers, and snowshoers.
