New Jersey Devils poke fun at the Colorado Avalanche.

The Colorado Avalanche NHL team lost 4 to 3 to the New Jersey Devils in Newark Tuesday evening, sparking quite a response from the winning team on social media. Professional sports teams often use funny videos and memes to poke fun at other teams, but the Devils’ social media team gave us a reminder of one of the greatest ski wipeout videos of the last 5 years.

The New Jersey team used the viral clip of a skier colliding with a chairlift during a mid-air flip at Canada’s Lake Louise Ski Resort in March of 2024. They placed the Colorado Avalanche logo over the skier, using Colorado’s relationship with skiing to celebrate their win.

Original 2024 Wipeout

The original 2024 wipeout went massively viral after the footage was released. Impressively, 17-year-old skier Ivan Jones only suffered some minor bruising after the crash. Lake Louise responded by encouraging skiers and snowboarders to keep their tricks to the designed jumps and features found inside the terrain park. It doesn’t appear that Jones was punished for the act, though.

It does feel a little bold to post the video given that New Jersey only won by 1 goal and allowed Colorado to score 2 in the last 4 minutes, but they’re just having fun with it and I certainly won’t condemn that.
