Update 11/15: Later on Friday, it was announced that Black Mountain would open for the season on November 15th at 7:45 a.m.
Jackson, New Hampshire — After having its latest closing day ever last ski season, Black Mountain is now aiming for its earliest opening ever.
In a letter to guests yesterday, Black Mountain General Manager Erik Mogenson detailed offseason upgrades and opening plans. Mogensen, who’s also the CEO of Entabeni Systems (which runs the Indy Pass), and his team are getting the mountain in tip-top shape before the business is converted into a co-op, which could transpire next spring.
Upgrades for this upcoming season are comprehensive. These improvements include more than 200 new snow guns, a refurbishment of the base lodge, an upgraded kitchen (enabling an expanded menu), a more than 30% increase in parking spaces, an expanded Alpine Cabin, a new cabin on the mountain, additional food and beverage experiences, over 28,000 feet of new snowmaking pipeline, enhanced water pumping capacity for snowmaking, rebuilding the motors of the lifts and snowmaking systems, and more.
Also worth noting is that Black has widened some trails and added a new terrain pod that increases the ski area’s vertical drop.
An opening date has yet to be announced, but it’s clear that snowmaking efforts have commenced. The announcement is expected to be unexpected and a bit swift, so we’ll keep you posted here at Unofficial about when the lifts start spinning at Black.
“We are charging fast, going big, and this little mountain is hell bent on making snow with as much passion and purpose as any place on the planet,” said Mogensen.
