Ski lift cable snaps in half.
Ski lift cable snaps in half.

Ski lift cables have a ton of weight and pressure behind them. Depending on the lift, they’re typically made up of several small metal cables and a plastic core. Once the cable is threaded through the top and bottom terminal and all of the towers in between, its two ends are spliced together. To do this, the strands at each end of the cable are unwinded and then rewound together.

Removing the cable, a process that’s typically only done if the entire chairlift is being removed, can be done in a manner of ways. Usually the cable is removed through a careful process so as to prevent damage from any of the lift’s parts, but these guys chose to just weld it in half, leading it to snap apart with immense force.
