Skiing the Republiken couloir.
Skiing the Republiken couloir.

Sweden isn’t really known for its skiing. Sure it’s known as a northern, typically wintery location, but it’s mountains don’t attract skiers and snowboarders like many other European countries. That doesn’t mean skiing isn’t an option though.

Deep in the mountains of Jรคmtland lies a couloir called Republiken. It’s one of fairly few skiable couloirs throughout the entire country, first skied in 2020 by David Kantermo and his crew. Swedish skier Lovisa Rosengren recently set out to become the first woman to ski the couloir, sharing the story to her YouTube.

This is a story about the couloir Republiken, a couloir far out in the deep mountains of Jรคmtland. Skied first time by David Kantermo and his crew 2020. Now it’s our time to ski it. I am proud to present this adventure that captures me and my best ski friend Oskar Eriksson friendship, background about the couloir and how it went for us skiing it. Thanks to David Kantermo for sharing his story and Marcus Ahlstrรถm for sharing footage from the first descent. It made it possible to tell the story behind this amazing run.

The FIS World Cup returns to Sweden this year between March 8-9, with women’s Giant Slalom and Slalom taking place in ร…re. Make sure to tune in when it goes down (Mikaela Shiffrin will likely be there).
