Steamboat Lake Marina firework malfunction.

Three workers were treated at the scene by firefighters after an unknown malfunction caused a domino effect that led to the premature detonation of a portion of the Steamboat Lake 4th of July firework show. The show began normally but as you can see in the video there was a large explosion on the ground which led to the other nearby mortars to ignite. The fireworks are launched over the lake on a barge next to a little island in the lake.

Steamboat Radio spoke with North Routt Fire Chief Matt Mathisen who said one firework went sideways “which pretty much took out the launch pad.” Chief Mathisen added that the good thing about staging the fireworks at the island is that when they do go off, they all fall into the water which decreases the fire danger.
