Back in July, Bluebird Backcountry in Colorado announced that they would be closing for good. First opened back in 2020, the liftless ski resort allowed skinners to access excellent backcountry terrain. In their initial press release that announced the closure, it seemed like there was a chance of a revival. They said they would “be selling its base buildings, lodging domes, and equipment fleet, essentially a ski area in a box.” It appears that they’ve given up on that goal.
This week, Roller Auction announced that basically everything from inside their base facilities has gone to the auction block. The items that are available for bids include skis (most come with bindings and skins), split boards, ski and snowboard boots, avalanche kits, beacons, probes, shovels, geodesic domes, backpacks, stoves, snowshoes, and more. I’d argue the most important item is the foosball table.
The other noticeable part about the auction is how cheap these bids currently are. These prices are rare to see, although I imagine the bids will keep going up as the word continues to spread.
Before placing a bid, there are a few things that you should know. You can currently place a bid until September 6th at 11 a.m. MDT. If you win, you’ll have to submit a payment by September 8th at 4:45 p.m. In addition, you will have to pick up the items in person on September 7th or 8th at 7500 York Street in Denver, Colorado. If you don’t pick it up by September 8th at 4:45 p.m., then you’re shit outta luck.
Ultimately, this move makes a potential reopening of Bluebird Backcountry all the more unlikely.
