Summit Daily is reporting that The Colorado Tourism Office (CTO) is refocusing their ad dollars this season to backcountry safety in light of a major spike in backcountry interest.

Rather than advertising in large cities across the US, the CTO is focusing on encouraging safety among Colorado residents this season.

The CTO, and other agencies, are encouraging backcountry skiers to sign the Colorado Backcountry Winter Safety Pledge to Know Before You Go, Recreate Responsibly, and Care For Colorado.

Good on the CTO for focusing their ad dollars on safety within Colorado, rather than their normal ads trying to bring more tourists to their state. Check out their full Winter Backcountry Safety page here.

We’re all hoping for a safe, and fun season in the Colorado backcountry. Check out some backcountry safety courses being offered this season.
