It’s been a horrible start to the season for Mad River Glen but this weekend marks the first time the ski area will run lifts.

Remember: This Snow Report From Mad River Is Hilarious

Actually, only one lift appears to be slated to open tomorrow and that will be the Sunnyside Double. According to the ski area’s statement, 15 trails will be open but changes and closures are possible if conditions deteriorate throughout the weekend. Currently Fox has the best conditions with a 15″ base.

Mad River Glen Official Statement

SKI IT IF YOU CAN – INDEED!

They call us the Ski It If You can mountain and that is EXACTLY what we are going to do this weekend!  We have decided to “push the envelope” and will be opening the Sunnyside Double side of the main mountain along with the Practice Slope (and maybe Callie’s Corner too) this weekend! Our plan is to run the lifts from 9 AM to 4 PM both days.  We expect to have about 15 trails open give or take a little and the trail count will certainly be “fluid”. It’s going to be wicked thin up there for sure and we are recommending it for experts only. While it might sound counter-intuitive we are opening up the Suunyside Double instead of the Single because there is simply more cover on that side (which is not unusual). The deepest base is on Fox and measures about a foot deep while there is just an inch or two in places near the summit. We will mark hazards as best we can but frankly there is not always enough snow in which to stick bamboo which makes marking difficult. We don’t have enough snow up on the top of the Single for the lift ramp and there is simply not enough snow for us to groom the mountain at all. Our plan is to operate this weekend and then suspend operations during the midweek period. That being said the weather report for Sunday is pretty sketchy and we may have to shut things down if we are forced to. Sorry to be so vague but we are doing all that we can do provide our incredibly patient skiers with as much skiing as we possibly can. Please be sure to stay tuned to this report for updates.

All Mad River Glen passes will be honored this weekend and Special lift ticket rates will be in effect. If you want to ski just the Practice Slope the lift ticket price will be $25. For those that want to use the Sunnyside Double too the lift ticket price will be $50 and we will not be offering junior or senior rates.
