Mammoth Mountain in California got some of its first significant snowfall of the 2026-27 ski season this past weekend, with up to 15 inches of fresh snow piling up across the mountain. The storm delivered 9 inches at Main Lodge and 15 inches at the summi.

Opening day is now less than two weeks away. Mammoth is scheduled to welcome skiers and snowboarders back to the mountain on Friday, November 13, and the latest round of snow is a welcome addition as crews work to get the resort ready for another winter.

Up To 15 Inches Of Snow Hits Mammoth Mountain

According to the resort’s November 1 update, the overnight storm left 15 inches of fresh snow at the summit and 9 inches at Main Lodge. While early-season snowfall does not necessarily guarantee widespread terrain availability when lifts begin spinning, it is an encouraging sign for a mountain preparing to open in the coming weeks.

Mammoth is particularly well positioned to take advantage of early-season storms thanks to its high elevation and typically lengthy winter season. The resort’s summit reaches 11,053 feet, while Main Lodge sits at approximately 8,900 feet, giving the mountain a pretty substantial elevation range for accumulating and maintaining snow.

Snowmaking Operations Are Underway Ahead Of Opening Day

Natural snowfall is only part of the preparation process. Mammoth’s snowmaking guns are also running, with mountain crews working at full speed to prepare the resort for its scheduled November 13 opening.

Mammoth has its sights set on another big winter, and the latest snowfall provides an encouraging start to November. Mammoth Mountain’s scheduled opening day is Friday, November 13, 2026.
