Stowe, Vermont — While a fire impacted one of Vermont’s most historic hotels, it didn’t damage the vast majority portion of the property.

On Wednesday, a fire broke out at the von Trapp Family Lodge. This happened at the villas area of the property. The fire impacted a villa with two residential units.

The resort confirmed Wednesday night that the fire occurred, but reassured guests that it was limited to a small section of the Villas. No injuries have been reported, and an investigation is underway.

MyNBC5-WPTZ traveled to Stowe on Thursday to see the damage firsthand. Luckily, the damage was limited to one building, which has two residences. The rest of the property came through unscathed. Still, it’s a bummer for those affected, and the building will need to be rebuilt.

“When we look back on it, we’ll have some lessons learned. We’re very happy with how things turned out, but we’re certainly not happy it happened,” said Walter Frame, COO of von Trapp.

The resort has been a staple of the Stowe community since the 1950s, and has played its role in becoming one of America’s most iconic ski towns.

The von Trapp family, originally based in Austria, fled after Nazi Germany annexed Austria. They moved to Vermont in the early 1940s and opened the resort in 1950. Maria von Trapp wrote an autobiography about their history. The story was fictionalized and adapted into The Sound of Music, regarded as one of the most iconic musicals of all time.
