Solden, Austria — The Audi FIS World Cup season began with strong results for the Americans.
Yesterday, the Audi FIS World Cup season officially started in Solden, Austria. Paula Moltzan, a giant slalom specialist, built on her strong results from last season. She won by 0.01 seconds over Lara Colturi. Other positive results include 7th for Mikaela Shiffrin, 13th for AJ Hurt, and 14th for Elisabeth Bocock.
Born and raised in Minnesota, Moltzan learned to race at Buck Hill, also the hometown hill for Lindsey Vonn. She made her World Cup debut back in 2012. However, she dealt with a string of injuries, which made her take a step back and go to college. She went to UVM and regained her edge with an NCAA slalom title. She returned to the World Cup circuit in 2018 and has posted more medals in recent years. This includes securing a Bronze in the Team Combined at this year’s Olympics. At 32, she became the oldest ever first-time World Cup winner.
Congrats to Paula on her first career World Cup victory!
