ONE WAY is introducing a new feature to the freeride and backcountry skiing world with its FR 18 FREE ski pole, featuring an integrated retractable strap designed to provide support when needed and disappear into the handle when it is not.
Pole straps can be an intense conversation in the world of skiing. On resort they prevent you from losing your grip, but they can become a hazard depending on the terrain. In the backcountry, for example, pole straps should always be removed in case of an avalanche, and the FR 18’s stealth strap easily retracts into the pole handle at the push of a button.
More Than Just a Retractable Strap
Beyond its signature feature, the FR 18 FREE includes several design elements aimed at backcountry performance. The pole features a durable 18-millimeter aluminum shaft and an extra-long EVA grip extension that provides multiple hand positions. Its textured, ergonomic surface is designed to offer comfort and a secure hold when navigating steep slopes, traverses, and changing snow conditions.
The 125 centimeter pole weighs 255 grams, making it a rather lightweight option for mountain travel. It ranges in sizes from 115cm to 135cm. ONE WAY has also equipped the FR 18 FREE with a large, flexible BC basket designed to adapt to different slope angles while providing support in deep snow. The basket is interchangeable, and the pole comes with additional trekking discs that allow it to be used for summer touring.
The combination of a retractable strap, extended grip, and interchangeable baskets makes the FR 18 FREE a impressively versatile option for skiers who spend time both in and out of bounds.
